Elaine had spent the morning near the lake, still trying to call the water to her again. She thought it worked a few times, but then her brain was also telling her  that it was just the small waves in the lake and nothing more. After about an hour of her fruitless efforts, she decided to head back to Bethlem, tired of yet another morning of failed attempts.

She decided to take the long route back today and headed through some parts of the forest and towards the cemetery, making sure to just walk on the edge of it. The idea of walking amongst dead people did not appeal to her and it was not a place she often visited even in her life outside.

A movement inside the cemetery shocked her and she jumped slightly, her head whipping to the side to make sure it was not some sort of wild animal and she visibly calmed down when she realized that it was just one of the residents.

“Hello,” she called out, staying where she was on the other side of the cemetery fence.

Nathan looked up at the voice and lifted his hand in greeting, stepping closer so he wouldn’t have to shout. It was too early for that in his opinion. “Hey,” he nodded, stopping where he walking now. The jump when she had heard him walking had been noticed, although she had calmed down when she noticed it was a person and not an animal or something, he didn’t know for sure whether she would panic or not. A few people seemed to do that here.

“Out for a walk?” He asked after a pause, not being able to think of anything else to say and still waking up a bit. Waking up usually took him a few moments unless it shocked induced. He looked at her expectantly for an answer.

“Is it still morning time?” He added, frowning now as he didn’t know how long he had been sitting. “Or did I sleep through till the afternoon?” Now he tilted his head back to look for the sun, spotting it easily in relatively the same spot as before.

“It’s just reaching noon,” Elaine replied, looking up at the sun in the sky. “Do you sleep in the cemetery often? Strange place you’ve chosen, I have to say,” she added with a shrug, looking down at her extremely soaked track pants and wondering what he thought seeing a random woman like this. It must’ve been a strange sight.

“I was just at the lake enjoying nature,” she lifted up a leg to bring attention to her pants. Might as well get it overwith, she thought.

“Not that late then, better than what I thought it would be.” Nathan nodded his head now, rubbing the back of his neck at her question. “It is a strange place and no, generally not. Cemetery is rather…disturbing at times, but it’s the best place for privacy. People are freaked out by the ghosts and whatnot over there.” He didn’t bother holding back his chuckle.

He glanced down at her pants, raising his brow at her. “I can see that,” he said with amusement clear in his voice before curiosity overtook it. “Isn’t the water cold though?”

The cemetery was cold at this time, but Nathan just tugged the jacket around him more closely. Blowing out a breath, he leaned back against the tree and tucked his hands into his pockets for warmth. He should have just left if he was that cold, but he didn’t really want to be inside right now. It was far too crowded and the whole situation with the black out had caused was only making things more chaotic than normal.

He dropped his chin onto his chest awkwardly, shaking his head so that the zipper would scratch the itch on his chin. He didn’t want to move his hands to scratch it, so that was really the only other option. Now that it was settled, he shifted and let his head drop back against the tree, his eyes slipping closed.

It wasn’t that he had fallen asleep, more like he had daydreamed about nothing for a moment there. He snapped awake again when he heard footsteps, climbing to his feet and stretching.
